Day 237: Upper Quad, 3d

Whether or not it was worth 5 hours of time remains to be seen.

Day 236: Cav

Our final Color & Light project is a case study on a public place in Providence of our choosing. My partner and I could have chosen any of Browns 100 libraries, or a RISD building or a retail store. But what could be a better case study than a restaurant with amazing food and a stocked bar??

And so, here's CAV, a Providence gem. Decorated by the mad hatter's wife, who brought back treasures from an African safari (with a slight detour through Asia) and put them in a former mill-space dripping with Austrian crystal.

Best. Project. Of. The. Semester.

Day 235: It's that time of the semester...

When the studio smells like rotted vomit chipboard (how about we just called that fragrance "eau de activated creativity"?)
and resembles a trash heap.

Day 234

Bowl-O-Rama Pottery Scholarship fundraiser at Market Square.

I scored both of these vases for $12!

Day 233: Yesterday's midterm review went well. Crit feedback was constructive and I've got a little over two weeks to produce a final product.

And...after a few CincoDeMayo decompression margaritas, the class took a mini-fieldtrip to the Box Office, designed by our professor Joe Haskett and his firm, Distill Studio.

And... the ceramics and glass thesis show opened at 65 Eddy Street.

Day 232: All up in knots.

As in my stomach, which is reacting to all of the materials due tomorrow for our midterm review. It's actually more like a 3/4 term or 1/4 term review as we've only had 2 weeks to prep materials.

1. Site Plan
2. Floor plans
3. Sections
4. Elevations
5. Experiential Vignettes
6. Process Book (50 pages)

Barf. We're still working on the quad - though my project has shifted from the Nickerson dorm building to the entire quad- which is like 6 buildings. No big deal.

Day 231

Thanks Phoebe. That really helps a lot.

Day 230: Fieldtrip

Color & Light field trip to Color Kinetics in Burlington.

Quite possibly the LED capital of the Northeast. This place was awesome.

4.29.2011

Crispy

Rhode Island's first gorgeously sunny day and I think I have heat stroke from measuring the quad for four hours.

The plans are starting to take shape though.

Day 227

Gimping through shading & light exercises.
