Coming Back Fresh...

For the final push to May 25th!

The last day of presentations for Studio. Hard to believe we'll be there in a month. Year 1 of 3 complete.

Days 202-205

It's time to sleep. Today's crit went really well. Hopefully we gave the powers-that-be some ideas for redesigning RISD freshman housing.

Day 203

I spent 20 hours yesterday at the studio. Our crit is tomorrow and this section is killing me slowly.

4.04.2011

Day 202

My class took a field trip to the Lightolier factory in Fall River, MA and all I got were some crummy aluminum shavings.

No pictures allowed. Boo.

Day 200! (& 201)

I celebrated Day 200 by completely ignoring the mountain of mid-term studio work due this coming Thursday. Between the 5-mile run courtesy of a 6am RedBull, sangria/popover brunch and a stroll in the woods with Teddy, the day was superb. Happy 1/5th of the way through grad school!

And on Day 201, back to the grind. In-progress floor plans and section sketches for the dorms.

List of deliverables for Thursday:

1. 3 Floor Plans & 1 Section
2. Materials Board
3. 1/16" Model on top of Topographic Model
4. 1/8" take-apart Model
5. Research / path patterns / density metrics
6. Sketch-Up pulled perspectives, try watercolor?

Here's the way a list like this works:

1. You have a project due in less than a week.
2. You make a wish list of deliverables for crit day.
3. You work really hard every day until the crit.
4. Slowly, nonessential deliverables are cut in favor of delivering SOMETHING COMPLETED.
5. You go into crit obsessing about all the other visuals that would have made the project SHINE.
6. Crit happens.
7. You leave crit realizing a spread of eye candy doesn't really matter if the concept is sloppy and poorly interpreted spatially.
8. Repeat.

And Happy Birthday to Teddy, who makes me smile.

Day 199

April 1st: 6" of snow and counting. We're all inside.
